If You Missed Out On Benicia’s ‘A Taste Of First’ Earlier This Year, You Have A Second Chance Later This Month
September 15th, 2008 categories: Benicia, Local Stuff
If you’re like me and missed out on the Benicia Main Street program’s “A Taste of First” event earlier this year, you have a second chance, for the sold-out event is returning the night of Wed. Sept. 24th.
It’s an opportunity to sample the tastes and flavors of many of Benicia’s popular downtown restaurants in a progressive dinner, small-tastes environment. With your ticket, you’re entitled to visit the various participating restaurants and enjoy various pre-selected menu items. When you’re done with one, you move onto the next restaurant and enjoy something different.
The event is sponsored by Benicia’s Main Street program, the highly energetic civic organization that throughout the year puts on such events as the weekly Farmer’s Market, the 3rd of July Torchlight Parade, the 4th of July fireworks, the December ‘Walk on First Street’ as well as countless others.
Main Street also used to hold its annual Valentines Auction every February, but with tougher economic times this year, the Main Street people figured there wouldn’t be as much disposable income floating around to justify putting on an auction. So they looked for another event that would have an even broader appear and which everyone could afford. They came up with an event offering something that everyone likes: Food. So the inaugural “A Taste Of First” made its debut earlier this spring, as a replacement for the popular Valentines Auction.
I remember hearing about the event a month or so before it took place and thought that it sounded interesting. But I never got around to buying tickets and had pretty much forgotten about it by the time it took place.
As it turned out, though, on the night that the event took place, I happened to go down to First Street to pick up a to-go order at Sahara. When I got there, it was even busier than normal and there was a real buzz about the place. At first I thought that maybe they were holding a private event.
But while I was waiting to pick up my order, several people came in and announced that they were Taste of First ticket holders. It was then that I realized I had forgotten about the event…but told myself I wouldn’t miss out if they ever repeated it.
This month’s event will feature over a dozen popular First Street restaurants, including:
- Aroma
- Camellia Tea Room
- Captain Blyther’s
- Double Rainbow
- First Street Cafe
- Java Point
- Kinder’s BBQ
- Nancy’s Bake Shop
- Pacifica Pizza
- Sahara
- Sandoval’s
- Shoreline Restaurant
- Venticello’s
So come Sept. 24th, we all have a second chance. Last time, if my memory serves, the event Sold Out…so if you’re interested this year, I’d get tickets soon. I know I will!
