weekly-solano-home-reportLots of statistics this week.

On the heels of the first quarter statistics for Solano County and final March totals for the county, both of which were posted a few days ago, comes our regular Weekly Home Sales & Listings report.

And, as you’ll see, the story that we’ve been reciting since early January marches on this week.

Inventory continues to drop amid a high sales pace characterized by over-asking-price multiple offers in many of the county’s most affordable neighborhoods. Read the rest of this entry »

Vallejo’s Playground Is Underway: DAY ONE

vallejo-playgroundA few days ago, I wrote about Vallejo’s new city park playground, which if all goes according to plan, will be started and completed in just five short days, thanks to an army of volunteers.

Today was Day One and an energetic and enthusiastic work crew was kept busy hauling lumber, sawing, drilling, positioning and erecting support timber.

Below is a video and some still photos that I took earlier this morning. I plan to stop by again tomorrow (Thursday) and will post some updated photos later in the day. Read the rest of this entry »

Car Aficionados Descend On Benicia

bhscarshowThe 16th annual Benicia Classic Car Show brought hundreds of car buffs to the Benicia Green earlier today to check out dozens of these restored beauties, their shiny finishes and brightly polished chrome glistening in the warm April sun.

Row after row of classic automobiles lined the green with others along the palm tree-lined First Street promenade and still more staged on the pier off the foot of the first street.

The annual show benefits the Benicia High Panther Band and also featured music, food and various auto-related vendor booths.

Gaudy Solano County Home Sales Figures For March: More Proof We’ve Reached The Bottom?

solano-housing-report-march-09March’s home sales numbers were again ‘off the charts’ throughout Solano County when compared to last March and they’re also stronger than Feburary’s totals, which, in turn, were stronger than January’s numbers.

All of this adds credence to the notion that the market may have already hit bottom in the lowest price ranges, as opportunistic investors and eager first-time buyers continue to descend on the market in record numbers.

Construction Of Vallejo’s One-Of-A-Kind Playground This Week Will Be Like An Old-Fashioned Barn-Raising

Between Wed. Apr. 29 and Sun. May 3, Vallejo’s sleepy City Park will be buzzing with hammers, saws, and cordless drills as Vallejoans and volunteers from neighboring cities turn out to help in what may seem much like an old-fashioned barn-raising.

Downtown Vallejo, or more specifically the large grassy block surrounded by Sacramento, Alabama, Marin and Louisiana streets will be a hub of activity, when hundreds of local volunteers show up to help build a huge fantasy-like wooden play structure in just five days. Read the rest of this entry »

Solano Home Sales & Listings Report For The Week Ending Apr. 20

weekly-solano-home-reportWith each successive week, the story remains pretty much the same — more sales and even fewer homes to choose from throughout most of Solano County.

Last week was no exception, especially in Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville and Suisun City. Only Benicia saw an increase in its inventory. The other four cities all saw their housing supplies continue to drop.

In raw numbers, Vallejo led the way with 52 fewer homes to choose from this week than a week ago. That’s a drop of 9.8% in just one week. Since early January, Vallejo’s total inventory of homes has fallen by 45.6% — from 878 to 478.

Historic Steam Locomotive Rolls Through Benicia As Part Of Western Heritage Tour

union-pacific-no-8441The last steam locomotive built for Union Pacific railroad was welcomed by several hundred history buffs, train buffs and curious Benicians as it rolled through Benicia earlier today as part of a 32-day tour celebrating the 140th anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike.

Benicia planning commissioner Rick Ernst organized the event and said he didn’t expect more than 50 people to attend. To his surprise, four or five times that number showed up, including Mayor Elizabeth Patterson, Vice-Mayor Tom Campbell and Councilmen Alan Schwartzman and Mike Ioakimedes.

Ernst set up an impromptu Benicia train station (a tent) in hopes that the train would make a temporary stop along its way from Roseville to Oakland — the Western-most destination on its 32-day round-trip journey from Cheyenne, WY.YouTube Preview Image Read the rest of this entry »
