Senate Bill Could Mean Help For Upside-Down Travis AFB Personnel Who Need To Move

Whether or not this makes it all the way through Congress and to President Obama’s desk remains to be seen, but the Senate version of the Economic Stimulus Bill (SB 336) presently contains a provision that would provide relief to military personnel who are relocated to another base but whose home is upside down mortgage-wise.
Locally, that could be a big help to those military personnel stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield who are being transferred elsewhere but owe more than their homes are worth. Read the rest of this entry »

Nut Tree Theme Park In Vacaville Closes Indefinitely Due To Continued Low Attendance

The Nut Tree “Family Park,” a small Vacaville theme park with kiddie rides is yet another victim of the woeful economy. Earlier this week, the Nut Tree announced that it was closing the park “indefinitely” due to two straight years of lagging business.
We took our grandson there three different times last year. Twice we went mid-week during the summer and it was like a ghost town — we pretty much had the park to ourselves; there couldn’t have been more than a dozen other patrons either time. The last time we went was on a weekend, but it was the same day they had a fall festival, so it was much more crowded that day. Even so, we never had to wait in any lines. Another Sign Of The Times: Cost Plus World Market Closing Its Vallejo Store

I stopped by Cost Plus in Vallejo this evening to pick up a few things and was surprised to find large Entire Inventory On Sale signs plastered all over the front windows of the Gateway Plaza store.
I wasn’t sure whether it was just first-of-the-year inventory time or the beginning of the end for yet another Vallejo retailer. I hadn’t heard news of Cost Plus closing any stores, so when I got home a few hours ago, I decided to check out several local news web sites to see if I had missed something.
